Los Angeles, June 29 (IANS): Singer Beyonce Knowles bagged the top honours at the 2015 BET Awards, including the trophy for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Video of the Year and Video Director of the Year.
Hosted by “Black-ish” stars Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, the award show took place here at the Nokia Theatre on Sunday, reports eonline.com.
Besides Knowles, other big winners of the night were singers Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj.
Minaj clinched the trophy for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist and Coca-Cola Viewers' Choice Award for her hit track "Only", which she sang along with Drake, Lil' Wayne and Brown.
Brown won the award for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and Fandemonium Award.
The Ultimate Icon, Music Dance Visual Award was bestowed upon singer Janet Jackson for her unmatched contribution to the music industry.
British singer Sam Smith was announced as the Best New Artist for this year. Kendrick Lamar won the award for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist.
TV series “Empire” stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson were declared the winners for Best Actor and Actress awards; and the Best Movie award was given to Ava DuVernay's “Selma”, which stars David Oyelowo, Tom Wilkinson, Carmen Ejogo, Tim Roth and Oprah Winfrey.
Some other winners of the night included singer The Weeknd, who won The Centric Award for his sinhle “Earned it”, Hip Hop duo Rae Sremmurd, who won the trophy for Best Group.
Common and John Legend clinched the trophy for Best Collaboration for their hit number “Glory”.
The Humanitarian Award was given to radio host Tom Joyner. Baseball player Mo’Ne Davis took home the trophy for YoungStars Award. The Best Gospel Artist trophy was won by Hip-Hop artist Lecrae.
Tennis ace Serena Williams was announced the Sportswoman of the Year, whereas in the men's category Stephen Curry was chosen as the winner of the same award.
The Best International Act: Africa was Stonebwoy (Ghana) and Best International Act: UK was declared as Stormzy.
