Puttur: Two electrocuted due to negligence of Mescom

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (RJP)

Puttur, June 23: Two persons lost their lives when they by accident came in contact with the electric pole with the live wire hanging from it at Ariyadka near Puttur on Monday ,June 22.

Victims were identified as the Chandra (31) and Kaushik (21) from Amchinadka. Both the victims were coolie workers.

As per reports, Chandra and Kaushik had gone to the nearby forest to fetch a wooden pole and both were carrying it when the mishap happened. They slipped and the wooden pole touched the electric pole. The wire was touching the electric pole as the insulator had broken off. The contact of the people to the wooden pole and contact of it to the electric pole became deadly for the duo and they collapsed.

Though the onlookers near a hotel wanted to help the victims they could not so as it was an electric shock. But before they could phone Mescom to switch off the electricity connection, the duo had died.

It is said that insulators coming off the poles is a common occurrence as very poor quality insulators are used by Mescom. Cost cutting is of more importance to them than the safety of people. Mescom executive chief engineer from Puttur Narayan Poojary visited the site.

Both the deceased were related and were from economically poor families. Both were breadwinners for their families. Chandra is survived by mother and two sisters while Kaushik is survived by father mother and two brothers.

No doubt, Mescom could be one of the worst power supply co. in the improved India!!

Just a look at the way the overhead wiring is done and the third grade equipment they use, the workmanship shows it all!!

Many have died due to the cause this two poor workers died and there is potential for many to end in the same fate due to haphazard wiring, open loose hanging live wires, open panel boxes, HV transformers at low heights without guards, HV wires running within reaching distance of apartments and what not!!

These people should be forced to pay heavy compensation in such cases as above where due to a broken cheap insulator causing the death of two poor breadwinners!! God save this place!! Jai Hind!!

In this case it may be a case of accident but investigation is necessary to reveal the truth. Insulators are ceramic and due to weather and stress related fatigue, liable to crack. Thus get live wire contact with the mounting metal.
But in many cases Mescom employees do not care. Being dealt in Electric field over fifty years,I always observe the dangerous situations and I contact Mescom. But they do not take the problems seriously. Kulshekar J E is very punctual when informed about dangerous situations. Attavar is questionable.
MCC is worst as every one has seen open junction boxes on Streetlight poles. Some boxes are so low,a Child can put hand inside them. Fed up with MCC,and given up calling this Office as they do not care even after informing.
Only way to solve this ignorance of Mescom is by filing negligence case against them and demand monitory damage.
Smart City with dumb Officials. I agree with Mr.Agnello and J.M. with their comments. In this case MLA nor MLC come forward as Mescom is their step child.

This is how govt. will treat it 'This is just an accident not intentional'. The news will die out cause they are just two coolies who do not have leverage.
Actually Mescom should be sued. The responsibility pinpointed and if there negligence it should be treated as manslaughter not amounting to murder. If there was corruption( in procurement or elsewhere) the relevant persons should be tried for murder.
