Mangaluru, Jun 21: A police team led by ASP Bantwal and DSP from Puttur, successfully arrested a rape accused within 24 hours on Sunday June 21 at Koila village, in Puttur Taluk.
Addressing a press meet at his office here on Sunday June 21, superintendent of police Dr Sharanappa said that the arrested is Shekar K (30).
A-16-year old girl, who is currently studying in 9th grade in Uppinangady School, was returning from school when she was allegedly raped. She was walking alone through Olakadama to Konemajalu road near Padavu, when a person named Shekar K (30) came from behind, shoved the shawl of the girl’s uniform into her mouth and allegedly raped, as per the complaint from the girl and her family members filed at Kadaba Station on Saturday June 20.
The girl had also given the details of Shekar’s appearance to the police. The spot where the girl was raped is surrounded by trees and hills.
According to the police, Shekar is a daily wager and a part time driver from Kalkadi house, Koila village, Puttur taluk.
The victim has already gone through medical tests.
Addition police officer, Vincent Shantha Kumar, assistant police officer Rahul Kumar S Bantwal, Puttur sub-division DYSP Bhaskar Rai N G, CPI Puttur Rural Anil S Kulkarni, Mahesh Prasad, Yogish Kumar and other police were successful in catching the convict within 24 hours.
The higher police authority has applauded the work and has announced that the police officers will receive a letter and reward for their tremendous work.
