Mangaluru, Jun 21: Giving Tree Trust, a registered non profit organisation, organised 'Mangaluru for No Honking' awareness programme on Saturday June 20 at City Center Mall in city.
On this occasion, 'Mangaluru for No Honking' poster was unveiled by Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, North MLA Mohideen Bawa, Zeeshan Ramlan the managing director of Ramlan's charitable trust, ACP (traffic) Uday Nayak and Murali Krishna.
Addressing the gathering MLA Bawa said, "Mangaluru soceity must support this campaign. This campaign should not last only for a month. Instead it should be permanent. The noise from the honking has to be reduced as much as possible. Mangaluru is known as intelligent district and in this regard everyone should join hands in reducing the noise pollution."
Lauding the organisers, MLA J R Lobo said, "The organisers have chosen a very important topic. Mangaluru is facing lot of noise pollution. In Balmatta, there is a college of 3000 students, 1000 from college, 1000 from PUC and 1000 from high school. It is not possible for those students to concentrate on their studies because of the noise from the honking of buses. We also hear honking from other vehicles too.
"In developed countries people wait patiently for the traffic to clear but in Mangaluru people are in hurry all the time and create noise pollution by honking continuously. This mentality has to change among us." Lobo added.
ACP traffic Uday Nayak making a point to the people who honk continuously, said, "Your will not gain anything by honking. In addition to buses and cars, even the two wheelers are installed with loud horns. Todays' youth has a craze for loud horns. I would request people not to use the loud horns."
MLC Ivan too visited the awareness programme.
Rasmia welcomed the guests. Ashiq compeered the ceremony.
'Mangaluru for no Honking' campaign will last till July 20.
