Women's World Cup: Japan beat Cameroon 2-1

Vancouver, June 13 (IANS): Defending champions Japan beat Cameroon 2-1 in the Women's World Cup.

Aya Sameshima scored for Japan just six minutes into the game. Yuika Sugasawa made it 2-0 10 minutes later on Friday, reports Xinhua.

The African girls refused to give up the game, and their tenacious efforts paid off when Ajara Nchout grabbed a consolation goal in the 91st minute.

Cameroon, who had swept Ecuador 6-0 in its first Group C match last Monday, will meet Switzerland next Tuesday when Japan is to play against Ecuador.
