Laussane, June 11 (IANS): International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has visited Beijing's 2022 Winter Olympics bidding exhibition here.

Beijing's presentation room at Lausanne's Palace Hotela features 3D interactive models of three Olympic venues in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou, and a virtual train journey experience. According to Beijing's plan, there will be a high speed railway network in 2019, linking the three Olympic areas with trains that can reach speeds of 350 km/h, reports Xinhua.

The IOC head on Wednesday also tried on high-tech glasses which gave him a panoramic view of the projected venues in the snow-covered mountains.

Beijing's bid committee also informed Bach that more than 1.5 million people have already participated in skiing in Zhangjiakou, Beijing's co-bidder, and the number of people skiing in Zhangjiakou's five different locations is increasing by 25 percent every year.

Following Tuesday's candidate cities' technical briefings for IOC members, Bach praised Beijing's plan to encourage some 300 million Chinese to practice winter sports. Former IOC president Jacques Rogge also toured the exhibition and said highly of Beijing's use of 2008 Olympic facilities.
