Puttur, Jun 8: In an incident which occurred at Madavu in Keyyoor village in the taluk on the night of Saturday June 6, two groups clashed with each other, leaving nine persons injured. All of them were later admitted into the hospital.
The victory celebration by way of procession was arranged in connection with the victory of Hanif from Keyyoor. When the procession reached Madavu Katte, fight broke out between two gangs. Ashraf, Hamza, Hashim, Anees, Muhammed Sunnati, Azharuddin Madavu, Sawad Madavu, Nizamuddin, and Harris got admitted into different hospitals in the town for treatment.
Reportedly pre-existing enmity between the groups since prior to the election had ignited the friction. A case stands registered in the rural police station here.
In another incident which occurred on Saturday night, two persons who came in a motor bike when a meeting to celebrate victory of Congress from all the seats in Kanyana village was in progress at Kanyana Junction, were beaten up. Some persons pushed this motor bike and tried to beat up both its occupants. The policemen, who had to try hard to bring the situation under control, sent away both the bike-borne youth after advising them to file police complaints.
Relating to this incident, soon people from both the sides crowded the place and prepared to confront each other. The situation turned tense. A group asked the policemen to arrest the culprits who had assaulted the bikers immediately, failing which they said they would create disturbances.
The police personnel then used batons to disperse trouble mongers. Circle inspector, Belliappa, Bantwal rural station sub-inspector, Rakshit A K, and Vittal sub-inspector, Prakash Devadiga, looked after law and order situation. The police arrested four persons in connection with assault on bike riders. They are Hamid, Shafique, Mustafa and Abdul Khadar, all from Kanyana. They were arrested based on a complaint filed by Kartik Rai from Kanyana, who was injured during the attack on his motor bike and was admitted into a private hospital in the town.
