Bengaluru, May 30 (DHNS): Heavy rain coupled with thunder and lightning lashed several parts of the State on Friday.
A motorist was killed and the pillion rider grievously injured after a tree fell over them in Gadag district, while, a home guard and a cop on election duty were injured after lightning struck them in Dakshina Kannada district.
Chitradurga
Several roads were waterlogged while rainwater gushed into many houses as it rained heavily in Chitradurga on Friday evening. Sky was overcast since morning and clouds opened up towards the evening. Areas such as Municipal Colony, Gumastha Colony, Kelagote, etc, were inundated. Jetting and sucking machines were pressed into service to drain out water.
Bhatkal
Bhatkal taluk in Uttara Kannada district received heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorm and lightning, for nearly an hour.
Dank weather prevailed since morning. By afternoon, heavy rainfall began to lash the taluk, lowering mercury levels. Most of the roads were inundated, creating traffic snarls at several places. Rainwater gushed into several houses and shops located in the low-lying areas.
Hubballi-Dharwad
After a gap of nearly a week, the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad and the surrounding areas received moderate rainfall on Friday afternoon. The showers brought respite for the residents from sweltering heat. The 30-minute rain brought down the mercury level a bit.
Gadag
Heavy rain coupled with gusty winds lashed parts of Ron taluk in Gadag district on Friday. The showers which began at 6 pm lasted for more than an hour. Power supply was affected in several villages as electricity poles were uprooted.
A motorcyclist was killed and the pillion rider was grievously injured after heavy winds brought down a tree on their two-wheeler in Kotabala village of Ron taluk, Gadag district.
The deceased has been identified as Siddappa Hebasura (40), a resident of Okkalageri Street in Gadag. The injured Yallanagouda Ninganagouda Patila has been admitted at a private hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred when both were returning to Gadag by a bike.

Kundapur, May 30: Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning battered the taluk on Friday May 29 afternoon. Nitish Shetty (14), who was struck by lightning near Kenchanur Jadi in the taluk, suffered severe burn injuries. He was admitted into a hospital in Manipal. Lightning also left behind a trail of heavy losses at Kedur near the above spot, where a house and cattle shed were extensively damaged.
Nitish Shetty, son of Prabhakar Shetty, who had come out of his house to check after lightning struck near his home near Kenchanur Jadi on Friday afternoon, was affected by the shock waves released by lightning. He was immediately rushed to Manipal hospital. Lightning also created havoc at various places in and around Kenchanur. The multipurpose farm belonging to progressive farmer, Kenchanur Somashekhar Shetty, suffered heavy losses. Electrical wiring and utensils in the house of Kenchanur Subbanna Shetty were damaged.
Due to lightning, television set, fans, wiring switch board etc in the house of Papamma in Janata Colony in Pratap Nagar in Kedur were damaged. No one was however, injured.
Almost all regions in the taluk reported heavy rain. Low-lying areas were inundated. As national highway work is in progress, water got stranded at various places along the highway, creating problems for vehicular traffic.
Mangaluru: Many regions in coast experience widespread rain

Mangaluru, May 30: Coastal Karnataka, which mostly experienced cloudy weather with intermittent drizzle since the last two days, received good rainfall on Friday May 29. Some places came under the spell of lightning for a prolonged period.
Mulky, Kinnigoly, Alike near Vittal, and the city received good rain on Friday afternoon. Punjlakatte, Siddakatte, Rayi, Koila, Beltngady, Bantwal, Ullal etc got normal rain. Sullia and Subrahmanya experienced cloudy weather. Mulleriya got drizzle on Friday morning. Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala taluks also got rain, with Kota and Byndoor reporting heavy rainfall.
The rainfall on Friday brought some respite from scorching heat. The meteorological department has predicted rain with thunder and lightning in a few places in coastal Karnataka and southern inland areas. Some regions in southern inland may get rain coupled with storms, it has warned.
