Udupi, May 26: The railway station at Indrali here had never expected to welcome new life, but that is what it exactly did on Tuesday May 26 morning.
Of late, we have heard stories of women giving birth when being taken in ambulances, in the toilets of moving trains, and also sometimes in deserted places without scope for getting any help. As per mythology, Lord Krishna was born in a jail.
Vijaya (35), who was expecting a baby shortly, had come to the town in a train. During her visit to the toilet in the railway station, she unexpectedly developed labour pain, and gave birth to a baby on Tuesday May 26 morning.
Vijaya, wife of Raju, who belongs to Kumta taluk in Uttara Kannada district, had come alone to the town to meet her uncle, who has been admitted into a private hospital here for treatment.
After he got a call from a person known to him about this development, Vishal Shetty, a well-known social worker, rushed to the railway station along with an ambulance. Railway station officials extended a helping hand in taking care of the woman and her newborn and shifting her to the vehicle.
The lady has since been admitted into the government maternity and children's hospital here, both the mother and baby are in good health, hospital sources said.
