Kundapur, May 25: Kundapur MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty has received a threat and extortion call from Australia from a person who claimed to be underworld don Ravi Poojary.
The caller contacted the MLA on his mobile phone and not only demanded money, but also threatened to take his life. A complaint in this regard was filed by Halady Srinivas Shetty in Shankaranarayana police station.
As per the complaint, the MLA was travelling from Halady to Koteshwar on Monday May 25, when a person who claimed to be Ravi Poojary called on his mobile phone and spoke in Tulu. The caller told Halady, "I know you have land. I want money," to which the MLA replied, "I have not done anything illegal and even during elections I did not take money from anyone. I do not have money."
However, the caller refused to believe Halady and threatened to kill him if he did not pay him the money as demanded, states the complaint.
Halady in his complaint urged the police to trace and take action against the caller.
Shankaranarayana police have registered a case.
