Puttur, May 23: A native of Bihar, who was accompanied by a girl from different community in the pillion of his motor bike, was attacked by some youngsters at Koila near Kadaba in the taluk. The incident, which occurred on Friday May 22 evening, gave rise to tension in the village.
Pankaj Kumar (20) from Bihar, who has been living at Angaragundi at Mangaladevi in Mangaluru with his family since the last many years, was accompanied in his motor bike by a girl from Kadaba who is undergoing nursing course at Deralakatte. He knew her as she happens to be the classmate of his sister.
It is said that some youths from the community to which the girl belongs, got suspicious at the sight of the couple and conveyed this information to some men from Koila. A gang of young people from Koila, who intercepted the motor bike at Koila, took the girl away in an Innova car bearing Kerala registration number, and assaulted the youth.
As people from both communities gathered at the spot during this scuffle, tempers ran high and the situation threatened to go out of control. Kadaba police, who rushed to the spot after being informed about the face-off, took the youngsters involved with trouble into custody.
