Mangaluru: Teenager meets tragic death in accident at Deralakatte

Mangaluru, May 21: A 16-year-old student died in an accident at Deralakatte junction here on Thursday May 21.

The deceased, Muhammed Shafique (16) from Kalkatta, was riding pillion on a scooter. He had taken a ride in a Honda Activa scooter with Abdul Razak, his neighbour, to reach Deralakatte.

Abdul Razak was about to stop his scooter to talk to a relative whom he came across at Deralakatte junction, when a car being driven by a doctor that was behind the scooter hit the scooter. Shafique, who suffered serious injuries in the incident, died on the spot.

Shafique used to work in the electrical shop being run by his uncle at Deralakatte, on account of summer holidays.

Shafique, who was a student of Kalkatta government high school, had passed SSLC this year, and had planned to join pre-university college.

A case has been registered in Konaje police station.

    the way some these bike riders ride they are themselves responsible for their deaths.I have personally seen the way they drive like they are riding in a superbike and they will overtake from right, left in the most negligent manner. And the car/ heavy vehicles are blamed for no reason in many cases

    Mr william i dont think you have driven to deralakatte recent past .i also belong to health profession before you make such comments please come down here take a car and drive from nantoor till deralakatte . just observe how bike and auto fellows drive , then you comment about responsibilities. its sad that boy has lost his life due someone mistake car or bike we dont know so i dont think its rt to comment . but i strongly disagree with the comment what you have put regarding doctors .

    Blame parents. Nothing else. Remember he is 16. He doesn't have license. Its tragic but its the fault of the parents.Parents are not learning their lessons. Money kills you.

    Lot of people in our area do not know traffic rules, and the RTO is resposible for this.

    How can the scooter just decide to stop while on the road. I actually feel bad for the doctor who was in the car.

    No speed limits implemented
    99% of people using the roads do not know the traffic rules.

    The traffic police is only interested in collecting fines for minor offences and not interested in fixing the traffic issues by giving licenses only to people who understand traffic laws

    Teenager meets tragic death in accident at Deralakatte-this is an accidental incident and cannot blame doctors alone.Yes I do agree that there should be a minimum of eight metres gap in between the vehicles but nobody follows that rule especially Auto drivers and two wheeler rider.They want to sneak in between whatever the gap they got,forgetting what happen to his/hr fellow vehicle owners.In fact they are reckless drivers without any manners causing injury to other public and vehcile owners.As somebody commented above there should be separate lane for two wheelers,auto and heavy vehicle drivers.They are the one major cause of all this type of accidents.However mistakes can be committed by any human being but there should be some manners while on wheel.RIP

    Let us not judge the doctor or any opposite party.Exact thing God alone knows.My observation is those who go by two wheelers are ready to risk their life and go in between the vehicles.Their speed also scade to walk beside the road...

    A precious life of a young child lost because of Senseless riding skills.
    Abdul Razak, hope u got a good riding lesson from this mishap which u will never forget.
    No point in blaming the DOCTOR who was driving the car. Am sure he didn't get off the road and rammed the scooter from behind

    Whenever you have to stop your vehicle, first look at the Rear View Mirrors. Make sure theres no vehicle right behind you.
    If theres any vehicle behind you, first reduce your speed with left indicators ON. Allow it to flash for at least 5 times with simultaneously reducing your vehicle speed and then slowly move off the road to your LEFT and stop it at the safer distance - At least 5 meters away from the road.

    I am sure the scooter rider has suddenly stopped the scooter on seeing his relative!. Why blame the doctor who was riding normally!?. Even I had faced many such situations while driving when the express buses and other vehicles suddenly stop in the middle of the way carelessly but then show hands and fingers at us!. Leave that doctor and arrest the scooter rider.

    Stopping a vehicle all of a sudden is a traffic violation and so is the motorist behind the Scooter. A sufficient distance should always be maintained between the two vehicles which would give a good leverage to avert any unexpected road incidents.
