Mangaluru, May 19: In an allegation that has the potential of developing into a major scam, duly sending several heads rolling, a private complainant has stated that thousands of acres of land in Dakshina Kannada district was fraudulently allotted in the names of persons who were supposedly working for defence establishment. Once allotted, these lands were disposed off to private individuals for huge sums, the complaint alleges.
The complainant, who had sent his petition backed by relevant records directly to the Prime Minister, has stated that with the connivance of the tahsildar of the taluk, fake documents were created to show that the land in question was being ceded for military personnel who are eligible for land as per schemes in force, with the covert purpose of raking in money.
The complaint was thereafter forwarded to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). CBI had entrusted the case for investigation to its Bengaluru Bureau. CBI Bengaluru head, Dr Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, has since referred the complaint to Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner for investigation and reporting the outcome.
The complainant has said that the beneficiaries of these land allotments were shown as military personnel since several decades. As the complaint is supported by documentary evidence, investigation has been set into motion. If it is found that the allegations are true, several government officials may face the heat for their connivance with the scam.
