Bengaluru, May 15: Due to a blunder committed by a teacher who had conducted valuation work of the answer sheets of a student, a girl student who secured 98 marks in Kannada was marked as having scored just 8. Her result showed that she had failed in SSLC examination.
Ruchita K R, a student of Sharadamba High School in Ashok Nagar Tumakuru was shocked when her result was announced. Although she had got 87.7 percent marks overall, she had failed in Kannada! Shocked over this turn of event, her father, Ramakrishnaiah, who also happens to be a teacher, went to Karnataka Secondary School Education Examination Board for applying for revaluation.
When he approached director of the board, Yashoda Bopanna, she checked the answer sheet, and found that Ruchita had actually scored 98 in Kannada, and thus passed with distinction. The board, which has since modified the student's result, has decided to issue notice to the teacher who valued the answer sheet and copied marks onto the OMR sheet, and impose fine, as there is provision to do so if there is a difference of marks of over six.
She said as the SSLC answer sheet valuation work happened to be a huge exercise involving about 8.5 lac students, there are bound to be mistakes. She has requested the students concerned and their parents not to get panicky, and instead, submit relevant applications to the board and get clarifications when in doubt.
