Bengaluru, May 14: Given the fact that the eviction of families, who had built houses on tank beds in the city and were forced to suffer demolition, turning out to be a slug-fest between Opposition BJP and JD(S) parties, former BJP minister and MLA S Suresh Kumar has offered to go to jail taking up the issue of families whose houses located on tank beds had been demolished in the city.
Addressing a news conference, the BJP spokesperson took up issue with Congress MLC V S Ugrappa and made it clear that he was not afraid to fight for the cause of the poor and middle classes, who had been exploited by land sharks and builders in collusion with corrupt officials.
The BJP leader said he was not afraid of Ugrappa’s statement on moving a privilege motion against him and State JD(S) President H D Kumaraswamy, who were members of the Legislature Committee on encroachment of tanks in the City.
"Ugrappa may a legal luminary and an expert on the Constitution but we have not made the deliberations of the committee public in any manner," Suresh Kumar said.
"We just reached out to help the displaced families. Ugrappa is free to move the privilege motion if he thinks that I and Kumaraswamy have violated the committee norms," the BJP leader said.
Suresh Kumar and former chief minister Jagadish Kumar said the party will file a petition with the State Election Commission regarding distribution of packets of palm oil and iodised salt to BPL families bearing photographs of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
"This is an attempt to woo voters in the coming gram panchayat polls," they said pointing out that the Siddaramaiah government must not stoop to this level.
The State Government has been providing one litre of palm oil and 1 kg of iodised salt at subsidised rates.
About 1.08 crore families with a total population of 4 crorehave benefited from the welfare initiative.
