Wellington, May 14 (IANS): Britain's Prince Harry spent time with New Zealand's war veterans on Thursday as his week-long tour of the country neared its end.
Prince Harry was greeted by a crowd of about 1,000 people at the War Memorial Centre in the lower North Island city of Whanganui, Xinhua news agency reported.
Earlier, he received a traditional Maori welcome at a local marae (ceremonial Maori meeting house) before meeting privately with local dignitaries.
The prince crossed the Whanganui river on a waka (Maori canoe), and said it was a privilege as he understood the importance of the river to the people of the city.
Prince Harry will travel on to Auckland in the final leg of his tour on Friday.
Before flying out on Saturday, he will join young football players at an event for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, which opens in New Zealand on May 30.
