Mangaluru, May 12: A fight erupted at Mogaveerapatna beach in Ullal here on Sunday May 10 evening in which left three persons injured. The police had to resort to mild lathi charge to control the situation, and four have been arrested so far.
A group of five including Alfaz, Naushad, Sinan from Deralakatte had been to the Mogaveerapatna beach on Sunday. While some people were playing on the beach, a ball went into the water, and two of Alfaz’s friends went to fetch it. Some people on the beach warned them that since the sea is dangerous there, they should not venture into the water to bring the ball.
Arguments started between two groups and went to the extent of fist fight. The police who were nearby reached the spot, but could not control the fight. When the situation worsened, additional police personnel were called and lathi charge was done to end the fight.
It is said that a young girl was injured in a rickshaw accident at Mukkacherry and a mob had assaulted the rickshaw driver from Mogaveerapatna on Saturday. The beach fight erupted as a result of this feud, a source said.
The lifeguards were also accused as being part of the fight. But Praveen Ullal from the lifeguards’ association has said that no lifeguard was involved in the fight. He also said, as thousands of people come to the beach on Sundays, better police presence is required in the area.
Four persons including Vasudeva (35), Vijay (40) and Jitendra (40) have been arrested .
Ashok (35), who was rendered physically challenged in an accident in the past, was also attacked. A complaint has been filed on the issue.
Ullal police are investigating further.
