Mangaluru, May 10: The Tilaknagar police from Bengaluru on Sunday May 10 arrested a woman at Kala Kunj road here in connection with a fraud case filed in Bengaluru.
The arrested lady has been identified as Gowri Suhas, wife of Suhas, who was staying at a flat in Kala Kunj road area for the past two years. She is originally said to be from Bengaluru.
Police sources said that altogether, seven people are accused in the case and face charges under sections 420, 465, 471 and 478 of the IPC.
Gowri's mother Meera Padiyar is the first accused in the case, and Gowri, the sixth accused.
Reliable sources said that the accused had taken money from several persons with promises to provide them with G-category sites under Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), and claimed to have high connections with influential persons. It is learnt that they have duped people to the tune of approximately Rs 3 crore. They had also created fake documents in this respect.
Sources also said that Meera Padiyar and her husband had taken a large amount of loan from a bank and made a Konkani movie in Bengaluru. The movie failed, and they did not repay the loan.
Sources said that Meera, the first accused in the case, and five others, including one Dhananjay, have been abconding from the last several months. Sources said that the seven accused had got anticipatory bail earlier, but as they failed to appear in court when summoned, the court issued arrest warrants against them.
It is learnt that around eight cases are filed against the accused in various police stations in Bengaluru.
Gowri's husband Suhas was not at home when the Tilaknagar police along with personnel of Barke police station came to Gowri's flat and arrested her. Sources said Suhas, who is understood to be one of the accused in the case, is also said to be absconding.
However, Gowri claimed that her mother was a guarantor for a finance firm and another person had absconded with some money and now her mother was being held accountable. Gowri insisted that she had nothing to do with the case.
Gowri and Suhas have a child of about 3-4 years. At the time of the arrest, a minor argument arose between social activist M G Hegde who had arrived at the spot and the police, with the former contending that the police should not arrest Gowri in the absence of her husband. However, the police took her away.
Another accused in the case was also brought to the city, but police refused to reveal his identity. Gowri has been taken to Bengaluru for further investigation.
