Mangaluru, May 8: Relatives of a woman who died all of a sudden at Wenlock hospital here staged a protest on Friday May 8 alleging doctors of negligence.
The deceased, identified as Poovakka (32), a resident of Ajjavara village, Sullia, passed away on the night of Friday May 7.
It is said that Poovakka had given birth to a baby boy at Lady Goschen Hospital on April 21, and baby had been kept in incubator. She was later discharged and her health was said to be fine.
On May 5, she was admitted to Wenlock hospital as she developed complications and on May 7, she passed away.
The exact cause of death is not yet known.
Her husband Ganesh later filed a complaint in Bunder police station alleging negligence on the part of the doctors.
The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.
On May 8, Poovakka's family members and relatives gathered at Lady Goschen hospital and also at Wenlock and protested. They demanded the arrest of the doctor.
Bunder police have registered a case.
Superintendent of Lady Goschen hospital demoted, transferred
Meanwhile, superintendent of Lady Goschen hospital Dr Shakunthala was demoted and transferred to Wenlock hospital for dereliction of duty, and a probe has been ordered into cases of alleged negligence under her.
Speaking to daijiworld, health minister U T Khadar said that Dr Shakunthala has been demoted, and it is not just over Poovakka death case but three or four such cases that had occured in the past. Till a new superintendent is appointed, the senior most doctor in Lady Goschen hospital would be in charge, he said.
