Mangaluru, May 4: Sanjay Das (22), a native of Assam, had deliberately groped a medical student when the latter was standing near LIquid Lounge near Jyoti Circle in the city on the night of Saturday May 2. He has since been arrested and produced in the court, upon which he was remanded to judicial custody.
Sanjay had tried to escape after making unwanted contact with the student's body, but was chased by a friend of the student. This friend succeeded in finding out the identity of the culprit and then fought with the owner of a fast food shop at Lighthouse Hill, where the offender worked. The friend of the medical student has been identified as Harishil Shetty (23), a resident of Kalpane in Padavu here.
Harshil Shetty, who doggedly followed Sanjay, found that he was hiding in the fast food shop where he worked. Shetty then began to fight with the owner of this joint, asking him to hand over the offender.
When the Bunder police reached the spot, took control of the situation, and asked Shetty to stop quarrelling, he told them that he does not need any police to handle this issue, as he was confident of teaching a lesson to the culprit on his own. He also jostled with three policemen.
Feeling offended, the police arrested Harshil and produced him in court, after which Harshil too was sent to judicial custody.
