Moodbidri, May 2: The policemen have now learnt that Muhammed Muksin (20) from Panemangalore in Bantwal taluk, who had fled after the vehicle in which stolen cattle was being transported overturned near the paper mill here sometime back, and who was held later relating to areca nut theft by Bantwal police, had murdered a truck driver near Sakleshpur earlier.
The policemen had registered robbery case against Muksin relating to cattle theft. Bantwal police had arrested him in connection with areca nut theft later, and the court had remanded to judicial custody. The Moodbidri police had taken him into custody through body warrant after coming to know about his arrest.
During the questioning, Muksin reportedly confessed that he and five others were coming towards Mangaluru from Sakleshpur, when they saw that a driver, identified as Manjunath from Arkalgud, had parked his truck by the side of road, and was counting money by switching the cabin light on. Assessing that he must be having lot of money, they murdered him with a knife, but realized later that he had only Rs 400 in cash. They then stole a Bolero vehicle parked a little ahead of this truck, and abandoned it at Madikeri.
The policemen produced the accused in the court, after which he was remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
