Panaji, Mar 19: The Kala Academy of Goa hosted the first-ever 'Sawai Sangeet Sammelan' in the state, in association with the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal of Pune.
The totally Indian classical music-based concert was dedicated to the late Sawai Gandharva alias Rambhau Kundgolkar.

In all, nine artistes from different disciplines performed in the Sammelan. Vocal recitals were rendered by Aarti Nayak, Madhav Gudi, Pandit Upendra Bhat, Pandit Ajay Pohankar, Shrinivas Joshi, Padma Talwalkar and Ustan Sayeeduddin Dagar.
Besides, Dr Rajeev Taranath and Sandeep Apte also performed on the Sarod and Sitar respectively.
About Sawai Gandharva
Rambhau Kundgolkar alias Sawai Gandharva was an exponent of Kirana gharana and is still being considered one of the greatest Hindustani vocalists of the 20th century.
