Kundapur, Apr 29: Women from Hallihole grama panchayat limits, with the co-operation of Namma Bhoomi Associations, held a protest rally opposing illegal sale of liquor in petty shops and hotels.
They took out a 2 kilometers protest walk from Chakra Maidan to the Grama Panchayat office of Hallihole and submitted a memorandum to development official Sudarshan.
The women’s organizations shouted slogans against the excise department and police system. They expressed anguish at the people’s representatives who they said are protecting the sellers of illegal liquor. “Haliihole area is Naxal-affected. The protest is meant to awaken the officials and people’s representatives. If the illegal sale of liquor does not stop in Hallihole area, the officials will have to feel the heat of intense protests,” they said.
Members of Makkala Mitra Association and gram panchayat members Shanker Narayana Kannantha, K Rama Naik, Mahila Mithra association leaders Yashodha, Shantha, Saraswathi, Saroja, Prema, Pallavi, Saroja, and Laxmidevi, Namma Bhoomi association leaders Arunachal Nayak, Kripa, Mahabaleshwara, Thilakraj, Vanaja, and Aniruddh, Grama Panchayat members Nagappa Poojary and Girija, as well as Sthree Shakthi Associations participated in the protests.
