Beltangady, Apr 20: An accident near Benaka hospital, Ujire here on Monday April 20 claimed the lives of a man and his son.
The deceased have been identified as Dinesh and his son Abhishek, residents of Gandhinagar in Laila.
The accident took place when they were riding from Ujire towards Beltangady.
Madhusudan, auto driver who was witness to the incident, and who happens to be a relative of the accused, said that when Dinesh and Abhishek were riding towards Beltangady, another bike which was being ridden recklessly at a high speed, smashed into their bike near Benaka hospital.
Both Dinesh and Abhishek were thrown on to the road because of the impact. At that moment, a lorry which was passing by at a high speed ran over them, dragging their bike along.
Both were rushed to hospital, where Dinesh was declared brought dead. Abhishek breathed his last while being shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru.
The lorry, which was transporting sand, was plying towards Bengaluru.
Dinesh and Abhishek were painters by profession.
The other bike rider who hit the duo escaped from the spot. His identity is not known.
Based on a complaint filed by the auto driver Madhusudan, Beltangady police have registered a case. In his complaint, Madhusudan urged for strict action against the bike rider and the lorry driver.
