Mangaluru, Apr 19: Journalists and photojournalists in the city took time of their busy schedules to test their skills on the sports field on Sunday April 19.
The sports meet was organized by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists' Union in association with Press Club of Mangaluru at St Aloysius College ground.
Minister for youth empowerment, sports and fisheries, Abhayachandra Jain inaugurated the meet by lighting the lamp.
Addressing the gathering, Jain said that he has plans of boosting sports by providing youngsters training in the taluk and district stadiums under the guidance of the college physical directors.
"Physical directors of Udupi and Raichur have engaged themselves in giving training to youths which has had a good response. Giving the charge of the stadiums to physical directors would help youngsters, as they can get better guidance," he added.
Mangaluru city police commissioner S Murugan adddressing the gathering said, "Journalists and the general public should engage themselves in physical exercises and sports to keep themselves fit and healthy."
President of Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists' Union welcomed the gathering.
On this occasion athletes Sakshi, Manohar Prabhu, senior journalist Lakshman Rai were felicitated.
Dakshina Kannada journalists cricket team which recently bagged second place in the state-level tournament organized at General K S Thimmayya district sports ground, Madikeri was also honoured on this occasion.
Senior journalist V Manohar Prasad, Press Club president Ramakrishna, Srinivas Nayak, Ravindra Shetty and others were also present.
