Mangaluru, Apr 20: To commemorate the 5th death anniversary of Konkani legend 'Konkan Kogull' Wilfy Rebimbus, ‘Zomya Gayan Fest’ - a group song festival of Wilfy’s songs was organized on April 19, Sunday at St Agnes College grounds.
The event began with the homage to 'Konkan Kogull' Wilfy Rebimbus' potrait by Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation Jacintha Vijay Alfred, Superior of St Agnes College, Sr Dr Maria Roopa and 'Konkan Maina' Meena Rebimbus.
Speaking on the occasion Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred said "I congratulate the organizers from the bottom of my heart for arranging the group song festival to commemorate the 5th death anniversary of Konkan Kogull. Even though he was born in small place of Jeppu parish, his contribution to music and society was immense."
"Wilfy organized musical nites to raise the funds for the education of the poor children. Even today around 100 students get benefit from the fund every year. He trained the budding singers even till his last days. He played vital role in providing the housing documents to the rented houses of Jeppu parish." Jacintha added.
"Wilfy is immortal. His songs are still alive in our hearts and we have to keep him immortal by organizing more and more similar programmes in the future and keep the legend alive among us." Jacintha concluded.
On the occasion a Konkani debut musical album of Dony Correa 'Hero - Only Yours' was released by Meena Rebimbus. The lyrics and tunes for the album have been composed by Dony Correa. Music has been composed and arranged by Roshan D'Souza Angelore.
All the donors for the programme were felicitated by 'Konkan Maina' Meena Rebimbus and Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred. Musician Joswin Pinto was also present on the dais.
A total number of 11 songs by different groups and 3 dance performances were performed on the stage to commemorate the 5th death anniversary of Konkani legend 'Konkan Kogull' Wilfy Rebimbus.
Dev boro dees divndi by Rebimbus family, tanv tanv jalim voram- by a group of children, Jig big rupan- by Claud D’Souza, Nathalamche rathi by Pamboor group, Mogramchem Nosib by United Younsters, Mukar mukar chol by Eric Soans Barkur, Nheson Kirgi bazu a dance performance, Chinthana Futwana by Bondel group, Amcho Ganv Canara by Bajpe group, Jugu Jugu chalthare railachi gaadi by Milagres group, Konkne Ami Gavooya by Melwyn Peris, Fulago Fulago by Babitha Cascia, and Vande Matharam dance were the performances rendered on the stage to delight the audience.
CGS Taccode, Prof Vincent Alva, Pamboor, Eddie Sequeira and Leslie Rego compered the programme.
