Mangaluru, Apr 19: Dakshina Kannada unit of BJP on Sunday April 19 burst crackers and distributed sweets outside the party office here to celebrate its achievement of becoming the world's largest political party with 10 crore members.
Addressing the gathering, C T Ravi, former minister and BJP MLA from Chikkamagaluru, who is also the national co-convenor of BJP membership drive said, "Today is happy day for all of us. On Saturday April 18 we crossed 10 crore membership through missed calls, and now BJP is not only the larget party of India but also of the world. BJP has surpassed the Communist Party of China (CPC), which has 8.6 crore members."
"The credit has to be given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and members and volunteers of BJP. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election our aim was to win 272 seats but we bagged 282 seats. In 2014, BJP aimed for 10 crore membership, and it is indeed a happy moment for all of us that we succeeded in achieving the target," he added.
"Earlier, 53% of the people in India did not have bank accounts, but a record number of 11.50 crore bank accounts have been opened under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), a feat which has entered the Guinness Book of World Records. Atal Pension Yojana will be launched soon. BJP does not believ in making records but wants to build a strong nation," he asserted.
"We amended the Land Acquisition Act through ordinance to provide more benefits to farmers and not deprive them of their rights. As per the new amendment, every farmer giving up his land is entitled to recieve compensation that is four times the market value and also a government job. How can this land bill be against the farmers? The Congress is trying to mislead the country," he said.
"Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of BJP members, followed by Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Karnataka. In southern India Karnataka has the highest number of BJP members which is joyous achievement for all of us," he added.
