Kundapur, Mar 25: In a tragic incident, a four-year-old girl died after a tree fell on her in a sudden storm at Halliberu, Madhyakeri in Kollur here on Wednesday March 25.
Sangeeta Naik (4), daughter of Vasu and Gayatri Naik, residents of Madhyakeri, was playing under the tree, when it fell on her. A grievously injured Sangeeta was rushed to hospital, but breathed her last on the way.
Vasu and Gayatri, both coolie workers, were at home when the incident took place. It is said that Sangeeta was playing under a moringa tree in the front yard at around 12.30 pm. All of a sudden, a stormy winds started to blow and the tree got uprooted and Sangeeta got trapped under it. She sustained serious injuries on her hands, legs and chest.
Sangeeta was immediately rushed to Kundapur government hospital, but Madhyakeri being an extremely rural area, it took nearly two hours to reach the hospital. The time lost in transit proved costly and she was pronounced brought dead by the doctors in the hospital.
Sangeeta leaves behind her parents, grandparents and a brother aged three years.
Local leader Ramesh Ganiga visited the hospital and expressed sympathies to the bereaved family.
