Udupi, Mar 24: The officials of the district labour department on Tuesday March 24 rescued two children near Shet building here.
Acting on a complaint from the public, the team raided a gold jewellery maker's shop and rescued two boys who were engaged as helpers in jewellery making.
The rescued boys, originally from West Bengal, were handed over to Spoorthidhama for rehabilitation and education in its special school.
Labour officer H P Jnanesh, project director of Udupi district Child Labour Project Society Prabhakar Achar, S Maya, coordinator of block resource centre here, education coordinator in the block education office Shankar, district children protection cell personnel Yogish and Kiran Babu, as well as personnel of Padubidri police station and others participated in the operation.
The labour department had recently raided several spots in and around Padubidri, Katapady and other areas and rescued nine child labourers hailing from Rajasthan.
