Udupi, Mar 24: The Udupi city municipal council (CMC) sealed a restaurant near city bus stand here on Monday March 23 for non-payment of rent.
The restaurant, 'Kamath's City Darshini' was being run on partnership by Manohar Kamath and B R Mahesh.
It is learnt that they took the space on rent in the financial year of 2008-09, but for the past one year, they had failed to pay rent, it alleged. The total outstanding amount stands at Rs 3,60,871.
The business partners were issued several notices, which they ignored.
Speaking to daijiworld, CMC revenue office P Chandra Poojary said, "We have issued notice every month and warned them personally too, hence this action (of sealing) was inevitable.
We took quick action against the restaurant owners. Once they pay the outstanding dues, the CMC will hand over the key."
He also said the CMC intends to recover as much of the pending amount as possible by March 31.
The CMC has also sealed 6-7 shops in Manipal and near KSRTC bus stand for the same reason.
The operation was led by CMC commissioner D Manjunathaiah and revenue officer Chandra Poojary along with town police team.
