Beltangady, Mar 22: An accident near Ujire here on Sunday March 22 claimed the lives of two persons. The accident involved a bike and two lorries.
The deceased have been identified as Sundar (32), a resident near Hedya of Kadirudyavar, and Harish (33), son of Babu of Kuttalike near Ballamanje of Machina.
The accident took place on Sunday evening. Sundar and Harish were riding from Somantadka towards Ujire, when a lorry plying from Ujire rammed head-on into their bike near a restaurant near Anugraha school.
Both Harish and Sundar were thrown on to the road due to the impact of the collision. Just at that moment, another lorry that plying at a high speed from Charmadi towards Ujire moved over the two persons.
Sundar and Harish who were critically injured were rushed to a private hospital in Ujire and then to a hospital in Mangaluru, but neither of them could be saved.
Sundar was a mason and used to accompany Harish in work as his assistant. From many days they had been going to Pilya in Aladangady on work, and on Sunday too they were returning from work when the accident took place. They were related, and from a poor family.
Sundar was unmarried. A few years ago, Sundar's elder sister got married to Harish, and the couple have two children. From the past two-three years, Harish was staying in his wife's parental house.
Sundar and Harish were also active members of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS).
A case has been registered against drivers of the two lorries, identified as Srinivas and Ansaf.
