Mangaluru, Mar 21: Health and family welfare minister U T Khadar on Saturday March 21 inaugurated the Unani unit at Wenlock hospital here and also conducted inspection of the hospital.
After the inauguration, the minister directed the officials to upgrade the Unani unit further.
He also inspected the hospital and directed the officials to replace the old windows with new ones and install proper lights in the passage. He also checked the new dialysis center which is one of its kind in the state and ordered the officials to finish the work at the earliest.
He also asked the officials to make use of the available space and set up a cafeteria inside the hospital. The space available at the back of the hospital will be used for a garden, he said.
During the inspection, the minister spotted some amount of drain water and he took the officials to task and stressed on the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the hospital.
New block at Rs 15.2 crore
DMO Dr Rajeshwari said, "With a view to add super-speciality facilities to Wenlock hospital, the old DMO quarters will be demolished and the new block will be built at a cost of Rs 15.2 crore. The reserve fund of Rs 8 crore in 'Arogya Raksha Samiti' will be used for the new block and for the remaining Rs 7.2 crore, the minister has placed the proposal with the state government. Once we get the necessary fund and approval from the government, work on the new block will be started. This new block will contain 176 beds, urology and neurosurgery section, operation theaters, regional blood transmission center according to the NACO guidelines and a high-tech casualty to address patients with acute emergency."
