Bantwal, Mar 19: A leopard, which had entered the village to hunt a cock, perhaps did not notice that there was a well without protective wall on its path. It fell into the well. It was rescued on Wednesday March 18. This incident occurred at Volavoor near Brahmarakootlu in the taluk.
The fact that the animal had fallen into the well located near the house of Lingappa Poojary in Volaloor, and was helpless to save itself, came to light on Wednesday morning. At midnight on Tuesday, the leopard had hunted a cock belonging to Lingappa Poojary, and was trying to flee, when it fell in the well belonging to Poojary. The family thereupon passed on information to the fire brigade and forest officials from Bantwal.
Officials of both the departments came to the spot. Although the forest officials wanted to use tranquilizers before bringing the animal out, there was delay in the arrival of veterinarians. Therefore, fire brigade personnel laid out net and placed a ladder. They also placed the trap of the forest department at the end, and forced the animal to come out. The leopard ran up the ladder and directly got trapped. The forest officials thereafter carried it to Pilikula Nisargadhama.
