Mangaluru, Mar 18: The much awaited annual national level technical fest 'Tiara-2015' was inaugurated at St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru on March 18.
Tiara-2015 is a two-day technical fest held on March 18 and 19 and offers a platform for participants to showcase, discuss, and enhance their technical skills.
Purandara Shetty, site manager from BASF Mangaluru, graced the occasion as chief guest. The inaugural ceremony was held in the College Auditorium in Academic Block- II. Jennifer Saldanha, convener of Tiara-2015, introduced the chief guest to the gathering. The chief guest formally inuagurated the fest by unveiling the Tiara logo.
In his address to the gathering, Purandara Shetty spoke about the theme of Tiara-2015, Innovation. He spoke about how the young generation should be guided to be innovative and creative. He also elaborated on how youth can contribute towards the ‘Make-in-India’ programme a reality. Taking an example of a common man in Punjab, who recently invented a geyser using natural resource, he explained how work experience will lead to creativity of things.
The Principal-SJEC, Dr Joseph Gonsalves addressed the students and asked them to come up with new and creative ideas. Director in charge Fr Ajith Menezes, in his presidential address encouraged the students to ‘Make in SJEC’ so as to contribute to our nation in line with the prime minister's call of ‘Make in India’. The convener, Keith Fernandes proposed vote of thanks.
Fr Rohith D’Costa, assistant director-SJEC, and Dr Rio D’Souza, Vice Principal-SJEC, were the other Ddgnitaries on the dais. The Staff and Students of SJEC as well as from other various institutions participating in the technical fest were present at the ceremony.
