Puttur, Mar 16: Two children who were poisoned by their own mother on Saturday March 14 have survived miraculously. It is said that they have moved away from the their previous critical conditions.
Shreemathi alias Bhoomika (29), a resident of Bellichadavu in Eshwaramangala of Nettanige Mudnoor village in Puttur taluk had committed suicide at her parental home on Saturday. But before ending her life by consuming poison, she also had fed her little daughters, Ashika (5) and Sushmita (3) with poison.
The relatives who came to know about the incident had broken open the house to take the mother and daughters to the hospital.
Shreemathi, who was taken to the Puttur hospital in critical condition died there later in the same day. The little children were shifted to Mangaluru in critical condition.
The conditions of both children, who were treated at Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru, are improving and they are out of danger.
Shreemathi had married Rajesh from Muigere in Chikkamagaluru district about seven years back. After her marriage, she continued to stay at her parental home and later bore two children. Rajesh, who worked in Hassan presently, visited his family in Eshwaramangala once a week.
The reason for the suicide is not yet known. Rural police inspector, Anil Kulkarni, is leading the investigation.
Meanwhile the body of the deceased was handed over to the family members on Sunday after post mortem. The deceased is survived by mother, two recovering daughters and a brother who has relocated recently from a foreign country.
