Udupi, Mar 14: The Udupi city municipal corporation was conferred the Best Practice Award for its initiative 'Improved financial and energy efficiency in water supply' at a function organised by the department of urban development, the directorate of municipal administration (DMA) and City Managers' Association, Karnataka (CMAK) on Friday March 13 at Vikasa Soudha, Bengaluru. The award carries a cash prize of Rs one lac.
The Vijayapura town municipal council was adjudged second best (maintenance of record room) in TMC category while Bantwal town municipal council (property tax collection through SAS by Bantwal) was declared third best TMC. The Vijayapura TMC was given cash prizes of Rs 75,000 and Bantwal TMC got Rs 50,000.
The Hubli-Dharwad corporation won the first prize in city corporation category while Mangalore city corporation won the second prize.
HDMC and Mangalore city corporation where given cash prizes of Rs one lac and Rs 75,000 respectively.
State-run organisations such as the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation secured the best practices award for its initiative on implementation of automated electronic driving test system. The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation won the second prize for online recruitment system in the line department category. The BTP won the third prize for BTRAC 2010 system.
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport and BTP were given cash prizes of Rs one lac, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50, 000 respectively.
Vinay Kumar Sorake, minister for urban development and Qamarul Islam, minister for municipal administration, department of public enterprises, minorities welfare, Haj and Wakf, presented the awards. Laxminarayana, commissioner of BBMP and Manjula, director for municipal administration were also present.
