Bengaluru, Mar 14: Unknown assailants killed the wife of a city-based contractor in broad daylight, and escaped with cash and ornaments. The incident came to light, when the son of the murdered woman came home in the afternoon.
The murdered woman has been identified as Manimegalai (67), resident of Choloorpalya second Main Road in Magadi Road. It is thought that the woman was killed either by smothering her or feeding food mixed with poisonous substance.
Her husband, Subramani, happens to be a construction contractor, while son, Ilangovan, is a degree student in a private college. While Subrahmani had been out of house for work and son attended college, the woman was murdered. When Ilangovan came home at about 12.30 pm and opened the door, he saw that his mother was lying on the bed and smoke was seen near her head.
The youth drew help of neighbours in admitting the lady to hosopital, but by then she had breathed her last. Cash amounting to seven lac rupees kept in the almirah, gold ornaments on her body and almirah weighing 200 grams, and 300 grams of silver valuables have gone missing.
Magadi Road station policemen suspect that people well known to the family would have committed this crime. They have taken up investigation.
