Beltangady, Mar 13: The Ashtabandha Brahmakalashotsava of Lord Manjunatha Temple at Dharmasthala was inaugurated on Thursday March 12 by Vijayaraghava Padvetnaya, managing trustee of Lord Janardana Temple Ujire by lighting traditional lamp. As part of the rituals, the programme of reciting 'Shivasahasra Namavali' was organized at Amritavarshini Hall here. The festivities and rituals will go on till March 18.
At the programme where about 3,000 devotees recited different names of Lord Shiva in unison, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade, said that one should keep his conscience clean to get maximum benefit out of reciting Lord's name.
The recital, in which even women and children had participated, began at 6.45 am and ended at 8 am. Dr Veerendra Heggade and his family members, and also Manila Mohandas Swamiji, were present.
The cultural programme organized on Thursday as part of the Ashtabandha Brahmakalashotsava was inaugurated by urban development minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake. Along with the Dharmadhikari, Prof S Prabhakar, D Harshendra Kumar and Surendra Kumar were present.
Sorake wished that the cultural programmes will infuse enthusiasm among the people. He also added that one can visualize the vast gamut of generosity, devotion and donations can encompass, in Dharmasthala. He also hailed Dharmasthala temple and organizations attached to it for making miracles happen through total dedication, devotion, and single-minded service. He hailed the role played by Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade for spreading education among the masses.
Minister for sports, Abhaychandra Jain, released the souvenir, 'Mahabandha', brought out on the occasion. He said that Dr Heggade always gives attention to minutest details, and added that temples should give utmost importance to hygiene and cleanliness on the model of Dharmasthala.
Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade, who presided over the function, said that Ashtabandha Brahmakalashotsava is organized to ward off deficiencies if any that would have occurred during the routine puja rituals, and to invoke added sanctity to the temple precincts, and for general good. He advised people to shed their negativity during temple visits.
