Udupi, Mar 13: Through a judgment delivered on Thursday March 12, judge of the additional district and sessions court here, R V Patil, held the accused, Suresh Marakala, guilty of murdering his parents, and awarded him life imprisonment.

Suresh Marakala (29) from Honnekumbri in Heggunje village in Udupi taluk used to pester his father, Heriya Marakala (65), and mother, Babi Marakalti (60), for money to meet his personal expenses, and then fight with them when they refused.
He fought with them on this issue on May 2, 2012 afternoon too. Enraged at their refusal to part with money, at around 3.30 am the next day, he allegedly murdered his parents by clubbing them with wooden sticks when asleep, and then dragged their bodies to a place where cashew trees under social forestry scheme are standing, and dumped them there.
The then police sub-inspector of Brahmavar station had registered first information report in the case, and the then police circle inspector, D T Prabhu, had conducted investigation and filed charge sheet in the court.
