Bengaluru, Mar 12: An ambitious 29-kms tunnel on the Shiradi Ghat section is proposed to be constructed to ensure seamless travel from Kanataka’s capital city of Bengaluru to the coastal region.
The cost of this ambitious project, if it gets off the ground, is pegged at Rs 10,000 crore at present rates.’
The proposed project would be executed with the financial assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Public Works Minister H C Mahadevappa told reporters in Bengaluru on Thursday.
The Minister, who had discussed the tunnel project with Union Surface Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Tuesday, said that “Gadkari has assured all support to execute the project."
The State Public Works Department would prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on the proposed tunnel route project and seek funding from JICA, he said.
The State Public Works Department had planned to concretise the entire Ghat stretch.
