Beltangady, Mar 11: A youth from Beltangady who had mysteriously gone missing from Mumbai airport last month has been found in Mumbai.
Safwan (25), a native of Karpady, Puttila here, was returning from Riyadh on February 21. He landed at Mumbai airport on February 22 morning, but did not take the connecting flight to Mangaluru.
Safwan's father Abubakker had been killed by uniddentified gunmen in Riyadh in October 2014, and as the mortal remains could not be brought back home, he was buried there itself. The incident sent Safwan, who was then employed in Riyadh, into a state of shock and he suffered health problems, sources said. His mother urged him to come back home, and hence he left Riyadh on February 21.
However, he did not board the connecting flight from Mumbai to Mangaluru, and went missing from the airport leaving his luggage behind. The CCTV camera caught a images of him walking towards the outer auto rickshaw stand with a bag in hand. A case was registered in Mumbai's Sahar police station.
It is learnt that Safwan wandered around several railway stations across Maharashtra before returning to Mumbai. As his photograph had gone viral on social networking sites and reports appeared in media, a few natives of Maddadka here staying in Mumbai recognized him when they saw him at Mumbai railway station. They contacted Safwan's family and also informed the police.
Safwan's family members went to Mumbai soon after receiving the call and confirmed his identity, sources said. He will soon be brought back to his hometown.
