Mangaluru, Mar 7: The foundation stone for Janasanjeevini General Medical Centre was laid by former union minister Oscar Fernandes at Wenlock hospital here on Saturday March 7.

He also inaugurated the 'Mukti' vehicle, also called the 'Shraddhanjali' vehicle, donated by Sasvat and U T Fareed Foundation.

After lighting the ceremonial lamp, health and family welfare minister U T Khadar said, "It is really good to be part of this inauguration. People come to Wenlock for treatment and it is really good that our doctors, nurses anad all other staff respond to their needs. Wenlock has the best post-mortem facility in the whole state.

"Generic medical stores will be introduced in all the districts in the next three months, where medicines will be available round-the-clock and sold at a concessional price. A diagnosis centre will be shortly opened and CT scan, MRI and other machines will be shortly installed here in Wenlock," he said.

"Shraddhanjali vehicle is the first of its kind in the whole state. Shortly we will introduce accident care insurance. If someone meets with accident, the expenses for the first 48 hours will be borne by the government up to Rs 25,000. Karnataka is the first place to introduce this kind of scheme in the whole of Asia. Wenlock hospital will also get a facelift once internal infrastructure is complete," Khadar informed.

Oscar Fernandes addressing gathering said, "Health is an important part of our lives. The himan lifespan has increased to 65 years as a result of medical science. Generic medical store started by the government is a really good scheme as people will get medicines at a low price. When accident occurs and patient is taken to hospital, they first ask how much money you have, but the government by introducing insurance scheme has made a pathway for treatment for the first 48 hours and costs upto Rs 25,000 will be borne by the government. People come to Wenlock hospital not only from this district but from other districts too."

J R Lobo, MLA Mangaluru South said, "I appreciate the efforts put in by the heath minister. He has taken great interest in Wenlock and Lady Goschen hospitals since ever since he took charge as health minister. If we compare these hospitals to how they were two years ago, we can see how much they have developed now. A hospital cannot be a good one with infrastructure alone. It also needs good service from doctors, nurses and all other employees and that service has been continuesly provided by the entire staff of this hospital. The health minister has given all support and we have to appreciate him for that. I wish good health to our health minister and may god give him strength to continue his good work."

Mohiuddin Bawa, MLA Mangaluru North, Ivan D'souza, MLC, A C Vinayraj, corporator, Rajeshwari Devi, DMO and others were present.

Shraddhnjali Vehicle.! Is it to carry dead body only ? If yes, then the name is O.K. If the vehicle never moves then it is O.k. I have seen few dead vehicle in the premises. If it is to carry sick or accident patient please change the name.' Wenlock has the best post mortem facility'- to say so it should have specialized medical (pathologist) doctor who does the autopsy . Is the lab only to carry out medical purpose autopsy ? Do they have forensic autopsy lab? .

Congrats Khader. Somewhere down the line, there are some who are trying to do their best for the people. Health Minister Khader is one who is in the forefront of showing what he can do with his young energy and ideas. I hope that other ministers, MLAs and MPs will follow his lead and try to outperform him so that the entire D.K. benefits. There is scope in all areas including improved infrastructure with good roads, accident free areas, quality recreation and sports, peaceful atmosphere and more. Let everyone join and coin a development program to make D.K. a model district full of hope, peace and satisfaction. Let all be happy and prosperous !

"Shraddhanjali" vehicle has good cause, but the name looks odd for the accident victims.
What is our first lady of Udupi is doing there?.
