Kundapur, Mar 6: A student, who was riding pillion of a motor bike, was surrounded by six persons including the motor bike rider at Hunsemakki in the taluk in the middle of the road on the evening of Thursday March 5.
The student who suffered critical injuries in this incident happens to be Sunray D'Souza (19) from Koni village near here. D'Souza is a first year degree course student of a college in the town.
On February 28, a floodlit Kabaddi tournament had been organized at Hunsemakki. During the tournament, friction had arisen on the controversy surrounding allotment of point on a particular occasion. Verbal frictions had developed into fistfight at that time. It is said that Sunray D'Souza had functioned as line umpire in that match.
A few youngsters, who nursed a grudge over D'Souza in connection with this incident, had conspired to attack him, it is said.
An old student of the college in which Sunray studies, had encouraged D'Souza on Thursday afternoon to hitch a hike in his motor bike to Hunsemakki. Ranjit, it is thought, had conveyed this information to five others, asking them to follow him to
Hunsemakki.
These five persons, who came in three motor bikes, followed Ranjith. They reportedly stopped their bikes at Hunsemakki before launching an attack on Sunray, leaving him badly injured and bruised. Thereafter, he was taken in a motor bike and dumped near a temple in Katkeri, D'Souza alleged in his complaint filed with the police.

Kundapur, Mar 6: An auto rickshaw driver was beaten up badly on Thursday March 5 evening in the town by two persons. It is said that failure on the part of the driver to discharge his financial commitments to a chit fund in which he was a member and contributing Rs 4,000 per month, and from which he had raised a loan of Rs 24,000, had attracted the ire of the attackers.
The victim of the assault has been identified as Sudhakar Poojary (43) from Hattiangady Golikere in the taluk. Poojary has got admitted into the government hospital here for treatment.
It is gathered that Poojary had raised a sum of Rs 24,000 from the said chit fund about six months ago for meeting expenses connected with the surgery of his eye. He claimed that he was going to the bank on Thursday with Rs 28,000 to repay a portion of gold loan raised by him from there against pledge of jewellery, when chit fund partners, Krisha and Raju, attacked him and snatched away the cash he had with him at the time.
A police complaint stands lodged in the police station here in connection with this incident.
