Udupi, Mar 1: The dominance of MIT authority issue echoed at the general body meeting of Udupi City Municipal Council held on Saturday February 28 at CMC conference hall here.
Ramash Kanchan expressed anger at Manipal campus authorities because of their irregular parking system. “Recently, the estate manager cleared the auto stand, which was on government land, without any permission. If the public parked the vehicles during an emergency, security will issue warnings. In some cases, the police have taken over,” he added.
He alleged that capitalists construct complexes without parking areas and also that the hospital releases waste water into an open gutter. He alleged that no one is ready to go against them.
Kanchan further raised a question about the records of the newly-constructing building close to Babbuswamy temple in Manipal. He urged immediate action against illegal construction.
M R Pai, opposition party leader, raised the question on irregular supply of water for Udupi wards. It was estimated that nearly 5.7 m of water level was seen in Baje dam. Ruling party members Shashiraj Kundar and other Kunjibettu member expressed the same problem.
Answering this, CMC president Yuvaraj said, “From March 1, the CMC will supply once in two days.”
Raising the issue on pending water bills, Yashpal Suvarna said there were Rs 25 lacs still be pending from the eight village Panchayats. The village panchayat election date is nearer, so he urged collection at the earliest.
Commissioner Manjunathaiah said that he had sent a notice to 8 PDOs and after discussion he will collect all the balance amount within 15 days. Opposition party leader Pai queried why the Yuvaraj CMC supplied free water to the tune of Rs 36 lac to homes in Kinnimulki (Vegas Township).
Answering the President, he said there were more than 100 cases during the BJP period and showed evidence of this. He agreed to take immediate action against illegal water supply.
Vice-President Amritha Krishna Murthyand other councilors were present at the meeting.
