Aurangabad, Feb 25 (IANS): India's Rishika Sunkara and Bhuvana Kalva were shown the door along with top seed Magda Linette in the second round of the $25000 Endurance Aurangabad Open Women’s ITF Championships here Wednesday.
Defending champion and World No.367 Dalila Jakupovic of Slovakia ousted top seed and World No.129 Magda Linette of Poland 6-2, 6-1 in just over an hour to record the biggest upset of the event so far.
It was an end for the Indian challenge too as two Indians in the second round Rishika and Bhuvana went down without a fight.
China’s eighth seed Xinyun Han thrashed qualifier Bhuvana Kalva 6-2, 6-2 in 58 minutes, while second seed and World No.166 Kai-Lin Zhang of China meted the same treatment to wildcard entrant Rishika, winning 6-1, 6-2 in 55 minutes.
In another upset, World No.354 Bulgarian Aleksandrina Naydenova shocked seventh seed and World No.253 Tadeja Majeric of Slovakia 6-1, 6-3 to enter the last eight stage.
Sixth seed Riko Sawayanagi of Japan, Britain’s Harriet Dart, Valentyna Ivakhnenko of Russia and Marie Benoit of Belgium were the other players to move into quarterfinals.
