Bhatkal, Feb 17: A young married woman died after reportedly consuming juice and tablets given to her by her husband. The incident took place on Sunday February 15 at Manki here. It is alleged that she was murdered by her husband, who has since gone absconding.
The victim has been identified as Shilpa Ganesh Naik (25), a resident of Manki. She had married Ganesh from Honnavar three years back.
It is said that ever since their marriage, Shilpa lived an unhappy life due to alleged harassment by her husband. Since the last one month Shilpa had been residing at her parental house at Manki.
On Sunday morning, Ganesh visited Shilpa and took her to a temple at Manki, and allegedly forced her to drink two glasses of juice along with some tablets, and threatened to kill her if she refused. After she consumed the juice and tablets, he dropped her home. Shilpa soon fell ill, and died even before the ambulance could reach the spot.
Ganesh went absconding soon after the incident. Family members suspect that Ganesh murdered his wife.
The couple has an 18-month-old daughter.
Manki PSI, Vasant Acahary along with his team rushed to the spot.
A case has been registered against Ganesh in Manki police station and a search for him is on.
After post-mortem at the Manki Government Hospital, her body was handed over to the family members.
