'Flavours from Home', a treat for home chefs in Mumbai


Mumbai, Feb 16 (IANS): From Sindhi, Gujarati and Parsi to Goan, East Indian, Maharashtrian, North Indian and more -- as many as 20 home chefs will participate in a Flavours of Home, a one-of-a-kind home chefs mela here Sunday.

To be held at the Westin Woods, The Westin Mumbai Garden City in Goregaon East here, and curated by food writer and consultant Mini Ribeiro, the event is a platform for home chefs passionate about cooking to showcase their talent.

The ‘Best Home Chef' will be adjudged by Master Chef Ajay Chopra and the winner will be awarded by Philips India.

“With abundant talent in our country in every kitchen, we at Flavours from Home, are striving to nurture this talent and act as facilitators, helping home talent to take their passion to the next level," Ribeiro said in a statement.

The idea behind the event is to "select talented home chefs from all over India to develop their potential and to provide them with platforms and opportunities".

"Some women seek opportunities to cater, others, cooking classes, or starting a restaurant, tie-ups with existing food delivery outfits. The Home Chefs Mela is just the beginning. This is our contribution towards women empowerment,” Ribeiro added.

The guests at the event will be able to savour on home kitchen wonders, says Anuraag Bhatnagar, area general manager, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, India, The Westin Mumbai Garden City.

The event promises fun, frolic and food under one roof as these home chefs will come with their signature dishes and specialties. Apart from food, there will be food-related exciting events like an appliance auction, live cooking demos, a live band and stand-up comedy for entertainment.
