Mangaluru, Feb 12: "Culture is the backbone of our society. We can build a sublime society. Soceity is standing on four pillars, Culture, politics, economy and principles. When the culture becomes a a strong foundation of the society, various fields will get developed economically. There will also be healthy politics and with good principles everybody will live a better life. Therefore we must concentrate on our culture and correct our mistakes." said M P Noronha, the general secretary of Mangaluru diocese.
Women Welfare and Family Welfare Committee organised a one day workshop 'Amchi Karyan Sobhanam'(Our wedding ceremonies) for the catholic leaders, organisers, vice presidents and secretaries of parish pastoral committees and masters of ceremonies here on Monday, February 9 at Bishop's house.
Addressing the gathering Besant Evening College principal Dr Carmelita Goveas spoke about the unwanted or irrelavant things included in the Konkani cultures like weddings, roce, funerals and other events. She also mentioned about unneccessary expenses and unreasonable delays.
Retired teacher George Castelino briefed about the drawbacks in the Konknai programmes. He suggested ways by which the problems could be overcome.
Fr Franics D'Souza, convener of Women Welfare Committee, welcomed the gathering.
Fr Joseph Martis and Sushil Noronha compered the programme.
Fr Santhosh Rodrigues conducted the prayer service prior to the workshop. Elizabeth Roche proposed the vote of thanks.
