London, Jan 28 (IANS): After drawing flak from Twitterati, England pacer Stuart Broad Wednesday apologised for having commented on minimum wage in Britain on social networking site Twitter.
The 28-year-old recently tweeted: "I've heard if you earn minimum wage in England you're in the top 10% earners in the world. #stay #humble (sic)."
Since October 2014, the British minimum wage is 6.50 pounds an hour for adults aged 21 and over, and 5.13 pounds for those aged between 18 and 20.
But his apparently sarcastic comment about the sensitive issue drew angry comments from the 'Twitterati' following which he apologised, reports bbc.com.
Broad then wrote: "No offence meant and sorry if any taken. The hashtag was aimed at myself." He tried to justify his comment through another subsequent tweet: "Clarifying my earlier tweet, I merely wanted to emphasise my amazement at just how big the world is."
The right-arm pacer is among the top earners in the national cricket squad, drawing a basic salary of 700,000 pounds from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and is paid 12,000 pounds, 5,000 pounds and 3,500 pounds for playing each Test, One-Day International (ODI) and T20 match, respectively.
Broad is currently playing for England in Australia and is one of the mainstays of the team's bowling for the forthcoming World Cup.
The fast-bowler is due to face India in a tri-series match, also involving Australia, in Sydney Friday.
