Mexico City, Jan 26 (IANS): Mexican boxer Giovanni "Rey" Vargas has become World Boxing Council (WBC) super bantamweight silver champion after defeating Argentine Nestor Paniaguain in two rounds.
The fight was held at Azul Hotel in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, a southwestern Mexican resort Saturday, reports Xinhua.
Vargas totally dominated the fight, taking advantage of his condition by hitting hard against Paniagua, who was pinned on the ropes and fell down in the first round.
In the second round, Vargas continued his tough and fast blows that his rival could not dodge.
With the victory, Vargas is ready to face Leo Santa Cruz, the current world champion of the super bantamweight category.
